Regardless of which of the two Super-Setras the bus operator chose, the engineering marvel of these two new Ulm models was that, except for the front section, they were 100% modular components from the Series 200 and shared identical bolted assemblies with other Setra touring coaches. The 216 HDS offered space for up to 16 rows of seats. In comparison, the underfloor cockpit variant provided more interior space. With the Setra SG 221 HDS, Kässbohrer had a vision, but due to the ban on running articulated touring coaches through France, they shifted focus in favor of solo vehicles. The SG 221 HDS was subsequently used as a demonstration and information bus at trade fairs and conferences; with its generously equipped kitchen on board, it became a central meeting point for representatives and customers.
