The VWL 1200 is a CNC controlled vertical three-axis electric pipe laying machine designed for laying medium to large fittings or pipes.
The machine can produce fittings typically in the 250 to 1400 mm internal diameter range (1400 mm SDR17). An optional 2-axis CNC drilling unit is available for drilling fusion indicators during the wire laying cycle or for drilling end holes during the external profiling cycle.
The VWL 1200 uses special fixtures that clamp onto an innovative feature that is integral to the coupling design, so that there is a separate fusion zone in each half of the coupling. The process of laying the wire starts at one clamp at the end of the coupling. The wire is inserted with twice the required pitch at the end of the fusion zone, whereupon the tool system rotates and then moves in the opposite direction between the first laid pitch until it reaches the resting position at the second clamp. The process is completed at the second part of the coupling.
The VWL 1200 system is designed to allow the loading and unloading of larger couplings (which can weigh up to approximately 300 kg even before the wire is inserted). The machine has a completely open top, which allows easy loading overhead using a gantry system. Alternatively, parts can be loaded through the extra wide operator's door using suitable gripping and handling equipment.
