Sharpening a drill bit is completed in three steps. First, the drill bit is clamped in a fixture, followed by the sharpening and pointing processes. The entire procedure is finished in less than a minute!
Before clamping the drill bit, the diameter is set on the grinding machine using a rotary dial. The drill bit is aligned and clamped with the appropriate collet in the fixture placed into the left-side mount of the machine.
Sharpening the cutting edges and pointing is straightforward: switch on the machine, insert the fixture with the drill bit into the right-side mount, and gently rotate from stop to stop – the first cutting edge is done. Then, rotate the fixture 180° to sharpen the second cutting edge.
Pointing is carried out in the same way, simply using the top mount. That’s it. Just switch off the machine and release the drill bit.
A clever design combines an eccentric and a special grinding wheel, so there is no need to worry about the cutting edge shape or clearance angle. An additional advantage is that both cutting edges are produced with exactly the same settings, ensuring optimum edge symmetry. Furthermore, the point angle can be freely selected between 90° – 140° before sharpening.
